THANK YOU 1st SOURCE FOUNDATION!

Valparaiso, IN (9/24/2024) – Dressed for School is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from 1st Source Foundation. These funds will be used to not only provide for the most basic need of clothing, but also contribute to the overall improvement of the lives within our community.

At Dressed for School, our mission is to provide new clothing at no cost to Porter County families in need in a supportive store-like environment. We provide these students with the opportunity to select their own clothes – all new and free of charge – twice a year. One wardrobe provides a week’s worth of clothing, including 4 bottoms, 5 tops, 5 underwear, 5 pair of socks, and a pair of gym shoes.

With the support of community partners such as 1st Source, our 2024 goal is to provide wardrobes to 1,500 Porter County students from financially-struggling families. One Valparaiso elementary school social worker told us specifically about the effect she has seen. “Dressed for School has been such a great resource. I see the kids - how proud they are to wear their new outfits around school. They just have a bounce in their step. They’ve been so excited to show me their clothes, and you can see the confidence it has given them.”

The grant was provided through 1st Source Foundation, which works to enhance and strengthen the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the communities in which they serve through a commitment of providing financial resources. 1st Source Foundation provides support to organizations that focus on the areas of social welfare and human services, education, arts and culture, or community and economic development.

THANK YOU to everyone for their generous donations in 2023! Because of your support, we were able to provide wardrobes to over 1200 elementary and middle school students from all school districts in Porter County. Our mission is to give kids from all economic backgrounds the same opportunity to feel confident in the clothes they wear to school. Also thank you to those organizations and individuals who held clothing drives or donated new clothing, shoes, and Kohl's cash for us! Together we make a difference in the lives of Porter County children!

Thank you to the Women's Fund of Porter County!

We are excited to announce that we have received a grant award from the Women’s Fund of Porter County! This award will allow us to purchase new clothing and shoes for financially struggling students in Porter County elementary schools, and will enable us to assist with the clothing needs of families in crisis in Porter County. You allow us to help so many children!

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and generous donors for a wonderful 2019! Over the past six months, we have been able to serve nearly 300 families, providing new wardrobes for their elementary-aged children.

We are looking forward to expanding our services in 2020. Currently, we are planning our Spring Distribution for April/May and are excited to help more kids!

We appreciate your support!

We are thrilled and honored to announce that Dressed for School has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Women’s Fund of Porter County at the Porter County Community Foundation. All of this money will be used for purchasing new clothing for our store. Elementary students will be coming to shop in August, and we will be ready for them! We are so grateful for this support. “Thank you” isn’t really enough to express the appreciation. But the smiles on the children’s faces when they pick out their new clothes will say it all! For now, though, THANK YOU to the Women’s Fund of Porter County!

We're Now Accepting Donations of ALL NEW clothing!

Dressed for School is now accepting donations of new (unused) clothing for children ages 5-11. We are in need of bottoms, tops, underwear, and socks! Please leave store tags attached.

Dressed for School has been awarded a grant from the Porter County Community Foundation that will be used for the remodel of our store! We are turning a classroom at VALE (the former Hayes Leonard Elementary School) into the store where students will come to shop for their wardrobes. The store, located at 653 Hayes Leonard Road, will be open beginning in August 2019. Appointments can be made through a Valparaiso Elementary School Social Worker or by contacting us by email at dressedforschoolvalpo@gmail.com. Dressed for School would like to give a huge thank you to the Porter County Community Foundation and Valparaiso Community Schools!
